The FR comes one of two ways: inherent fiber, where the flame resistance is built into the polymer itself, or a durable finish that holds through 50+ commercial wash cycles. Inherent FR doesn't wash out, period - it's in the chemistry. Durable finish gets you the certification you need at a different price point. Which one you get depends on the standard your project has to meet. Both pass. Both last.

What it passes: NFPA 701 (US). BS5867 (UK/EU). CAN/ULC S109 (Canada). If your jurisdiction calls for something we haven't listed, tell us the standard and the volume. We can test to it.

What it looks like on the window: It drapes like a standard heavyweight polyester. No stiffness from the FR treatment. No chemical smell. No residue on your hands. No color shift between dye lots. Hang it next to a regular 336GSM curtain and a guest can't tell which one is fire-rated.

What else it does: At 336GSM, the weave blocks most external light on its own. Need full blackout? Add an interlining. Need thermal break? Add a backing. Both upgrades get tested as part of the complete assembly - because a "fire-rated" curtain with an untested blackout liner that melts at 200°F isn't fire-rated anymore. We don't ship assemblies that haven't been tested together.

Where it fits: Hotels, obviously. But the certs also cover schools, corporate offices, lecture halls, auditoriums - anywhere the occupancy permit says "fire-rated window treatments" and the person holding the clipboard wants paperwork that checks out.

Are the certs real or self-declared?

Third-party lab, every standard. Not our letterhead. NFPA 701, BS5867, CAN/ULC S109 - all tested through accredited facilities. Reports ship with the order.

Does the FR wash out?

Inherent FR: no. It's in the polymer - not a coating, not a dip. It's permanent for the life of the fabric. Durable finish: holds 50+ commercial cycles. Either way, you're not re-treating curtains on a quarterly schedule.

Can I add blackout or thermal to a fire-rated curtain?

Yes, but the assembly needs to be tested as-built. We test the base fabric + interlining/backing together. Don't assume any fire-rated curtain stays fire-rated after you sew in a random blackout liner. Ours ship with the combined certification.

Does the FR treatment change how the fabric looks or feels?

No. Modern FR polyester doesn't stiffen, doesn't smell, doesn't shift color. If you couldn't see the wash label, you wouldn't know it was fire-rated.

Does this work for schools and offices?

Same certs, same fabric. NFPA 701 and BS5867 cover classrooms, office partitions, auditoriums, public assembly spaces. The spec doesn't change - just the building type.

What documentation comes with the order?

Certificate of compliance per batch. Accredited lab test report. For large-scale projects: a letter of assurance for your architect or fire engineer, tied to the specific code edition in your project specification.
